With only two days left to the Country’s general election, IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has issued new directives of stamping ballot papers saying those without the commission’s stamp shall be treated as invalid.
In a letter dated 5th of August 2017 and addressed to all returning officers says and I quote:..”while the law requiring stamping of ballot papers was done away with through the 2017 amendment to the elections (General) regulations 2012 the commission has resolved that a ballot paper that has not been stamped shall be treated as invalid”. It concludes by saying, “take note and inform Presiding officers promptly”.
What Kenyans should be told by the IEBC through its chair Wafula Chebukati is why the commission decided to take this measures now when the Country is only 24-hours away to the general elections.
