The crude and barbaric arrest of Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong reeks of powerful sinister and vindictive vendetta like forces at work.
The forces that run right from his own home county to the national level in the ongoing political manipulations to execute political scores and gains.
This clearly played out from the way he was bundled into the cells when he presented himself to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) offices by the commission’s operatives and bail denial in the courts with completely no basis for the court action.
It was crowned by the way the so called mainstream media is handling the whole circus with clear manifestations that it was and is being manipulated by the same forces.
Indeed Capital FM radio in its report admitted that they had been tipped off by EACC operatives that – “Ojaamong had presented himself, they had arrested him and he was being processed to be charged in court to face corruption charges.”
That was further strengthened at the law courts when they descended on the Governor like a pack of jackals, hyenas and an army of scavengers jostling and fighting for a dawned carcass without interrogating the depth of the unfolding circus drama.
The most critical question here is that if the EACC operatives and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji were professionally executing their duties, why did it take them so long to take action against the Governor? Why are they obviously taking advantage of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s current avowed war on Corruption? How many big fishes are out there who corruptly stole billions of shillings and are walking scot free?
This bring into question why the same operatives have failed to take action against Jaswant Singh Rai and his son Tajveer Singh Rai for the appalling mess they have deliberately and systematically executed to strangulate and kill the country’s sugar industry with open impunity?
Why have they failed to take action against the immediate former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero nearly ten years after it became public knowledge on how he presided over the systematic plunder and destruction of the giant Mumias Sugar Company? The missing billions of shillings that he failed to account for during his tenure at City Hall? The Merali’s involvement in the whole sugar industry mess?
Back to the Kilimani law courts what legal basis did Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti have in denying the Ojaamong and his co-accused bail? The investigating officer Timothy Wahome and prosecutors Alexander Muteti and Grace Muthoni told the court that they should be denied bail because they could “interfere with witnesses.”
The question why is Wahome , Muteti and Muthoni not telling the same court that this is a case of 2016 and this is 2018 and the witnesses have not been interfered with? If he is a qualified professional why it has taken him and the Haji two and a half years to realize that Ojaamong and the co-accused have cases to answer? Whose axes are the EACC and the DPP operatives grinding? Are they not also simply abusing those very offices to serve the interests of the powerful political forces controlling them?
The EACC is on record documenting that the most corrupt county in the country is Murang’a then why haven’t the commission’s operatives arrested and prosecuted any official of that county government of corruption previous or current?
According to the DPP Haji the governor and the said county officials would face charges relating to irregular acquisition of integrated solid waste management services.
His statement read: “It was alleged the governor of Busia, Sospeter Ojaamong’, unilaterally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Madam R Enterprises Limited (MRE Ltd) in a project of solid waste management system without due regard to the procedural framework governing management of public finance and projects leading to loss of KSh 8 million.”
Therefore why has he failed to take action on high and low profile personalities that are known to have failed to account for billions of shillings while in office? The classic being that of the current health ministry Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki who was holding the same docket in the devolution ministry when billions of shillings were looted at the National Youth Service (NYS)?
To confirm that powerful sinister political manipulations are at work, five legislators (MPs) from Busia county hailed the arrest of the Governor Ojaamong’ and eight county officials over allegations of misappropriation of public funds.
In a joint statement read by Matayos MP Geofrey Odanga, the leaders said they fully supported purge on corruption and were ready to offer any support the anti-graft czars may require.
Addressing the media at the precincts of Parliament on the morning of Wednesday, July 4th, few hours after Ojaamong’ was arraigned in court, they called on county residents to remain calm and let law enforcers do their work. That shows clearly that the powerful controllers of the same MPs right from the county to the national level were pulling their strings.
Indeed it is an open secret that the county’s senator Amos Wako is at complete cross-roads with Ojaamong and heavily financed Odanga’s campaigns that saw his first entry into parliament including the last general elections – with Ojaamong Wako’s political pariah.
Wako is on record having in the past before the last general elections publicly declared his political fallout with Ojaamong over alleged corruption that he never specified and overtly through his Personal Assistant Chris Mugeni campaigned for Ojaamong’s arch-rival former Funyula legislator Paul Otuoma.
It is also an open secret that Otuoma who has since defected to Jubilee from ODM and his former Budalangi counterpart Ababu Namwamba were Deputy Wiliam Ruto’s moles in the ODM when they were at the helm of the party and has since panned out as they went home to roost with Ruto’s Jubilee where Ababu has since been rewarded with a senior post in government.
Whereas the genesis of Ojaamong’s woes are rooted in his historical long association with the Raila Odinga’s family where he is considered a family member and Ruto a covert political nemesis with Raila is hungry to mark his foot print in Busia county in his quest for the Presidency in 2022 after Jubilee failed to do so at the last general elections.
What the Busia Senator Amos Wako has not told the Busia county residents is what he went to do in State House a few months before the last general elections? What did they discuss with President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto? What manipulations and political free wheeler dealing in Busia County have been the results of that meeting? What consequences did they have on the county’s politics in the run up to the last general elections, during, after and to date?
The bottom line remains that Deputy President William Ruto is a deadly manipulative, sinister and relentless vendetta like operative who does not forget any slight. The most critical question is that what influence does he have in the Judiciary, the DPP’s, the EACC, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)?
