Serious integrity questions have erupted concerning the Embakasi East Constituency Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Candidate Babu Owino over his questionable business deals current and past.
Questions are also emerging about his close association with the Mombasa County Governor and ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho who masterminded Owino’s capture of the party’s nomination to vie for that constituency’s seat.
Angaza News has since established that whenever Owino frequently jets into Mombasa to conduct his sinister questionable business deals, he stay’s at Joho’s residence and while the Governor jets into Nairobi on any business official or otherwise he camps at Owino’s residence.
Though there is unlimited freedom of association, what is triggering many questions from members of the public is what business brings the duo together who under normal circumstances would be as far apart as the North and South Poles.
It must not be forgotten that on numerous occasions Joho has been accused by not only the government officials but also his political opponents of allegedly being involved in the narcotics trade at the coast.
However as far as Owino is concerned, we have also established that for a long time he used to hang out with Indian friends in a once popular quasi private club known as Cactus Bar and Restaurant on Lenana road in Nairobi’s upper class Hurlingham area.
Angaza news has since established that Cactus Club was later closed by the government authorities after it was suspected of and being implicated as being a thriving centre for conducting illegal business where narcotic drugs hard cash were the order of the day in swiping the dealers’ hands.
It has emerged that Babu who comes from a not so well family background started exhibiting access to un-known huge sources of hard cash and leading a highly lavish lifestyle while at the University of Nairobi doing his undergraduate studies.
The authorities have since confirmed that while at the university some Students who joined Babu in drugs have since died. The best example is one student who was killed by fellow students and who we identified by only one name Julius.
It has emerged that Julius was also dealing in drugs and belonged to a particular rival gang to Babu’s at the Campus which was eventually displaced by Babu’s in vicious violent bitter business rivalry to gain control and dominate the illicit business.
We can now authoritatively report that when Julius was killed his own fellow students who initially accused him for allegedly stealing a laptop of which nothing could be proved, it is now revealed that was used as a cover-up, but the real reasons behind that killing are yet to be made public though police pursued the line of involvement in narcotics trade.
According to our sources Babu’s gang members later controlled the infamous Hall “9” at the University of Nairobi where about ten students were expelled or are now languishing in the streets of Luthuli/Accra roads in Nairobi who Babu uses at his own whims in conducting his apparently sinister secretive business.
Impeccable sources at the University told Angaza News that because of deep involvement in this business, he had no time to put or invest seriously in his college studies that were not producing in any immediate lucrative income that he badly wanted.
It is believed that during his first course Babu bribed his way to get a 1st class honours degree from the University of Nairobi and one Mr. Antony who also doing Actuarial science and now holds a master’s degree did most of the exams for Babu.
It must also be remembered that Babu vied for Westlands constituency parliamentary seat but lost then went back to University again and joined Parklands School of Law in 2014 where he again activated his networks and at the same time zoomed his way to become the SONU chairperson despite the usually fierce completion demanding lots of cash money.
[wp_ad_camp_2] Reports in our possession indicate that his term ended in 2015 but he vied again and persistently vying for that leadership over and over again and in the process becoming the longest ever serving SONU chairperson. No one had ever become SONU chairperson for even two terms but made history by winning the chairperson position for four times in a row.
Reports also show clearly that Babu also engaged in Money laundering right from the University where he was once arrested several times for being involved in dealing with fake dollars leading to his arrest and at one time conning an elderly man off Kshs. 900, 000 as a brokerage down payment for him to secure a fumigation tender.
That was because at that time there was heavy cockroach infestation at the University of Nairobi, with Babu convincing his victim that he was in a position to influence the university authorities for him to get the tender but the cash was needed for “greasing” and his own “Commission” unfortunately the man never got the tender and Babu was arrested and taken to Central Police Station.
It has also emerged that in yet another ugly incident Babu was also accused of organizing a gang of students to target his then SONU Secretary General Alex Matere who was attacked with machetes in the night leaving him seriously injured.
The most recent emerging reports indicate that When Babu wanted to vie for the Embakasi East constituency seat, he was referred by someone at Nairobi Governor Kidero’s office to seek advice from one Joshua Obiende because of his tight working network with the residents of all cadres.
Authoritatively we can report that Embakasi East residents decided to endorse Obiende after they felt that Babu was an outsider. They also felt that Babu’s public image could not have allowed him to win the Embakasi seat not also forgeting the fact that the central government could have flexed its muscles against him Considering his history of shady business dealings.
Obiende decided not to vie on an ODM ticket after he was advised not to considering Babu’s close relationship with Mombasa governor who as ODM’s Deputy party leader was given Nairobi to manage the ODM 2017 general elections candidates’ nominations. [wp_ad_camp_2]
It has emerged that Joho gave Babu the returning officer and all the Presiding officers where he was declared the winner beating a very wealthy candidate George Bhutto.
Obiende says that when he was approached by Babu – he was told that he would be made a defacto Member of Parliament since Babu wanted to set up an office at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to do his own businesses.
Indeed JKIA sits squarely in the middle of Embakasi East constituency which brings into question what kind of business Babu is secretly plotting to get involved into using the office he is planning to open at JKIA if gets that constituency’s seat at the coming general elections.
Background information in our possession indicates that Babu went to Kisumu Central Primary and Kisumu Boy’s High School where he sat for his KCSE where he perfomed dismally then later joined Millennium Academy a school for the most able where he did form 5 & 6 to enable him join University of Nairobi.
Since he did not also pass well to enable him enroll as as a regular student he went ahead to do parallel degree in Actuarial Science. By then he had a lot of money when he joined University of Nairobi where he exchanged cars like exchanging clothes.
There after Students got curious to know the source of his wealth because still as a new student he used to live in Kileleshwa and payed for his own fees. Students started befriending him that is when they then later noticed that he had no business at all and he was from a very poor background and even realised that the mother stayed in one of the poorest slums in Kisumu called Nyalenda in a one roomed house.
