The Political Party tribunal that has been hearing the Dagoretti North Amani National Congress (ANC) party disputed parliamentary nominations made it’s ruling yesterday that the exercise be repeated.
But even as the residents prepare to go into yet a repeat of the party primaries, a source within party headquarters has told Angaza News that Ben Shilibwa who came a distant third garnering 3800 votes had already been awarded the certificate under questionable circumstances.
The source further revealed that the party leader Musalia Mudavadi had given orders to the National Elections Board that no one should be given the certificate if not Shilibwa leaving many questions than answers.
Residents are now demanding an explanation from Mudavadi whom they accuse of interfering with the work of NEB and also trying to manipulate the tribunal. They say he must come out and clear the air by publicly announcing whether his party had awarded the certificate to Shilibwa or not before they could accept the repeat.
A senior party official whose name we can’t reveal to avoid victimization revealed that Mudavadi had put the secretariat under pressure to issue the certificate to Shilibwa something that almost brought a rift between the party leadership.
The official also wondered why the party leader had ordered them to issue the party certificate to Shilibwa even before the tribunal issued its verdict.
“This state of affairs leaves the Busia people residing in Dagoretti North with no other option but to come out in large numbers to vote Shilibwa out during the August 8 general elections”, said Maurice Otswila a resident of Gatina ward.
He said that they had lost confidence in Mudavadi for what he termed to as trying to turn ANC into a Maragoli affair.
I am calling on our people residing in Busia County to reject any acts of dictatorship from any quarter and elect leaders of their choice regardless of the party.
“Dr. Paul Otuoma who had won fair and square was rigged in broad day light by Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong”, he said adding that they cannot sit back and watch Mudavadi shortchange them here in Nairobi by denying one of their own Magero Gumo who emerged as the winner what is rightfully his.
