Developer Wants Speaker Muturi To Unravel Committee Report Mystery

Erdemann Property Limited has called on the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi to move with speed and unravel the mystery surrounding the report on pollution by the Committee for Environment and Natural resources.
Through the firm’s Managing Director Zeyun Yang, the developer said that the report pitting his firm and London distillers Kenya Limited (LDK) had taken close to nine months since it was adopted by the house in October last year.
The report had among other recommendations stated that LDK had only six months to put it’s house in order or face closure.
An alcoholic drinks firm risked closure over non-compliance of a directive on waste management.
Last year in September, the Mavoko based factory in Machakos County was given six months by the National Assembly Environment Committee to control toxic discharge from its facility after residents of Great Wall Gardens on Shanghai road, Athi River and adjacent areas filed a petition (March) in which they accused the alcohol-maker of subjecting them to health hazards.
Earlier, in a letter dated January 22, 2018, Real estate developer Erdemann Properties owned by Chinese investor Zeyun Yang had also written to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) raising issues regarding environmental pollution occasioned by toxic fumes and effluent from the firm which negatively affecting the lives of the residents of the larger Athi river area.

At long last the long awaited report on what is ailing the sugar industry in the country conducted by the Task Force led by the council of Governors Chairman and Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was at long last presented it’s findings to the government at the end of last week.
One of the most critical issues that emerged during the meeting is the state of the sugarcane farming in the country with millers having their zones with farmers stretched in at least 47 square kilometer zones contracted to produce and supply cane to millers located in that zone.
Playing Greedy Politics With Educational Institutions Must Stop

The ministry of education’s de-localization programme has opened up a Pandora ’s Box for many politicians, their henchmen and women and influential personalities to exploit the situation to further their personal interests.
At the local level these characters have discovered that secondary schools are gold mines from which they can mint millions of shillings annually through their influence since they are located in their constituencies.
The biggest targets being high or secondary schools with large populations of students which means higher demands for certain goods and services to run these institutions which therefore must be tendered or contracted for from external sources which simply means money.
Malala Cheap Politicking over BSI Licensing

The Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, the Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and other political leaders from that county who are opposed to the licensing of the Busia Sugar Industry factory to begin operations must be regarded as cheap politics and treated with the contempt it deserves.
The Senator and these leaders must also be told that they are completely and totally out of place wading into matters concerning another county government complete with its own senator and governor who know what is right for the county’s people.
Busia Sugar Finally Gets A Licence

After years of court battles, the Ministry of Agriculture has finally issued an operating License to Busia Sugar Industry a week after Deputy President William Ruto toured the factory last Saturday where he asked West Kenya Sugar to withdraw the case it had lounged against BSI.
While going round the facility, Ruto ordered CS Mwangi Kiunjuri to make sure that BSI acquired the license within one week. “Jubilee government shall not sit back and watch some few people who are allergic to competition sabotage President Uhuru Kenyatta’s big 4”, a visibly angry Ruto said.
BSI which has been facing unending court battles instituted against it by the rival West Kenya Sugar for the last two years since its completion, has a crashing capacity of 3000 tonnes of per day. The case has so far been withdrawn.
The former Premier Rt. Hon Raila Odinga who is also AU’s Special Envoy for Infrastructure is set to officially launch it on 26th of this Month.
