Kenya Orders Closure Of Kakuma, Daadab Refugee Camps

A Section of Kakuma Refugee Camp

Kenya has ordered closure of Kakuma and Daadab refugee camps citing National security threats posed by some of the refugees at the camps.

The government on Tuesday gave the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees a 14 day ultimatum failure to which it will ensure that all refugees are transported to the border witb Somalia.

The two camps whose population stands at almost half a million were established in Kenya in early 90s.

The move comes hardly a week after Kenya withdrew from an International Court of Justice (ICJ) on maritime border dispute with the neighbouring Somalia and is seeking for the matter to be resolved by AU.
