An 18 year old girl from Butula- Busia County who had lost hope to join University due to lack of fees can now have a reason to smile as well wishers came to her aid.
This comes a day after Angaza News posted a story on its Facebook page titled “BUTULA GIRL RESORTS TO HOUSE MAID JOB AFTER LOSING HOPE TO JOIN UNIVERSITY”.
After the story was published a good Samaritan who was the first to respond and who only identified himself as Antony Songoro wrote, “can you link me with Edna Cecile girl in your story I offer her scholarship”.
As if that was not enough a sizeable number of Professionals and leaders from Busia who included Busia women rep Florence Mutua, Susan Mang’eni, Cafe Deli CEO Mr. Obado and Engineer Dan Barasa among others also responded despite efforts by a few enemies of education and haters to try and sabotage the process.
Mutua pledged Sh27,000 under affirmative action program while Eng. Barasa and Susan each gave Sh5000 each with Songoro sending in his personal contribution of Sh22,000.
Others who send in their contributions are Polycarp Onyango, Daddy Wandera, Dr. Regina Nabwire, Johnson Friday, Chris Chessa among others. A total of Sh55,233 was raised.
When Angaza team reached out to Edna to break the good news she could not hide her joy. The exercise that saw this achieved only took hardly less than 24 hours.
When that time to hand over the money to the young girl reached, a visibly shocked Edna struggled to hold back tears of joy as she could not understand how it happened that fast.
The organising team then paid fees for a whole academic year and together with Songoro promised to monitor the girl’s education until she completes her degree course at Kenyatta University where she has been admitted.
