Pro-BBI Youths Disrupt Aisha Jumwa’s Press Conference in Mombasa
January 24th, 2020MP Aisha Jumwa had convened a press briefing at a Mombasa hotel ahead of a divisive BBI report rally. The lawmaker was forced to cut short her press briefing after irate youth stormed the venue on Friday, January 24.
Hon. Jumwa was addressing the media at Lotus Hotel in Mombasa on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting slated for January 25 in the coastal city when she was attacked.
Although no major casualty was reported, Aisha and journalists had to scamper for safety as pro-BBI hooligans pelted her with stones.
The group chanted President Uhuru Kenyatta and Governor Hassan Joho’s names while at the same time warning against any attempt to disrupt the upcoming rally.
Nyali MP Mohammed Ali arrived immediately the pro BBI group dispersed and defended Jumwa saying she had a democratic right to air her views without being intimidated. He also accused Joho of being behind the incident and said pro-Ruto MPs from the Coast region must be allowed to address the Saturday meeting.
Jumwa during the presser demanded her Tanga Tanga colleagues from the coast region be slotted in the BBI Mombasa edition programme as they were better placed to speak on issues affecting the region.
Speaking soon after the attack, the visibly furious MP linked Joho to the incident and warned leaders on the danger of politicising and using the BBI to settle own scores.

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi to be Charged on Friday with Attempted Extortion
January 24th, 2020Nyakundi was arrested on Monday on allegations of extorting an unnamed person Sh1 million.
He was arrested alongside an individual DCI identified as Emanuel Nyamweya Ong’era.
The two are said to have demanded for Sh17.5 million promising to pull down libelous content published on online platforms they manage.
“Detectives based at Gigiri have today afternoon arrested two suspects namely Cyprian Andama Nyakundi and Emmanuel Nyamweya Ong’era after successful investigations touching on extortion, blackmail and false accusations,” DCI tweeted.
“The two had just received Ksh. 1 Million from one of their victims being a down payment of Ksh 17.5 million they had earlier demanded as a precondition for pulling down libellous posts appearing on a website allegedly owned by the suspects.”
Under Section 300 (1) (C) (IV), a person found guilty of extorting by threats, “is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years; and in any other case the offender is liable to imprisonment for three years.”
The law defines extortion as an action amounting to accusing or threatening, “any person of committing any felony or misdemeanour, or of offering or making any solicitation or threat to any person as an inducement to commit or permit the commission of any felony or misdemeanor.”
The law also criminalizes conveying the contents of such threats knowingly in writing.
Inside Teddy Akumu’s Deal at Kaizer Chiefs

Wuhan pneumonia outbreak: First case reported outside China
January 18th, 2020A tourist in Thailand has become the first person outside China diagnosed with a new, pneumonia-like virus that has already infected dozens of people.
The woman was quarantined after landing in Bangkok from Wuhan, eastern China, where the outbreak began in December.
One person has died and 41 cases of the virus have been recorded so far.
It has been identified as a coronavirus, which can cause illnesses ranging from common colds to potentially deadly Sars.
Sars – severe acute respiratory syndrome – killed more than 700 people around the world during an outbreak in 2002-3, after originating in China.
Nyayo Stadium’s Viability Questioned after Kenya v Sudan Delayed Due to Crowd Trouble
January 18th, 2020On Saturday, January 18 questions emerged over Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium’s viability following crowd trouble during the FIBA Afrobasket pre-qualifier final between Kenya and South Sudan.
The clash which was scheduled to kick off at 6:30 pm local time had to be delayed for more than an hour after a significant number of fans stormed in the court as the teams warmed up.
The crowd, which seemed to increase in size flooded the gymnasium in minutes, forcing players from both teams to vacate the court.

Mudavadi, Wetangula Dump Khalwale for Raila’s BBI Meeting
January 18th, 2020Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavi and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula on Saturday, January 18, made their entrance at Bukhungu Stadium, for the Building Bridges Meeting.
The two leaders arrived in a convoy, accompanied by some of their supporters while other leaders from the region were already seated, and ready for the meeting.
This contrasts their earlier stand where they had vowed to not attend the meeting, claiming that they had not received invitations and further planned to hold a parallel meeting, at the Nabongo Stadium in Mumias.
“My brother Wetangula and I have not received an invitation to the January 18 Bukhungu Meeting. Someone decided to invite us through social media,” said Mudavadi in statement last week.
Odinga led a brigade of leaders at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega Town while Khalwale with some local leaders assembled in Mumias, despite the police banning his meeting over security threats.
RUTO, KALONZO: BBI Should Not Be Turned Into a Political Contest
January 18th, 2020Deputy President Dr. William Ruto accompanied by former vice president Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, today led fellow leaders allied to him in condemning the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) publicity forums and stated that should not be turned into a political contest.
They said the Initiative should take everyone’s view if it is to be inclusive.
Speaking during the burial of Rael Mbeleete, mother to the former Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Kilonzo Mailu in Makindu, Makueni County on Saturday, the leaders said they were not opposed to BBI.
They noted that there was an opportunity for the Initiative to take the country to the next level of development “if it is not hijacked by politicians”.
Leaders present included former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka and Kenya Ambassador to Uganda Kiema Kilonzo.
Permits for Mudavadi, Wetangula Mumias Anti-BBI Meeting Cancelled
January 15th, 2020Police in Mumias have canceled permits for two meetings set for this weekend planned by ANC leader Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Wetangula, citing security fears.
In the letter dated January 14th, police advised the planners to inform their participants of the changes. “This is to notify you that this office has canceled your permit to carry out the exercise purportedly scheduled to take place on 18th due to security reasons,” the letter stated.
Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula have united to oppose meetings to popularise the Building Bridges Initiative report.
The two leaders have however vowed not to attend the BBI meeting at Bukhungu Stadium saying they were not involved by the organisers. Mudavadi said, as Western leaders, all they want is for Kenyans to shun divisive politics being hatched from BBI.

The second phase is expected to alter the BBI proposals with an emphasis on the Executive structure, which many quarters have dismissed as weak.

A court in Pakistan on Monday annulled the death sentence handed to former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, ruling that the special court which had found him guilty of treason last year was unconstitutional. The original ruling had marked the first time a former leader of the armed forces had faced such a sentence for treason in Pakistan, where the military maintains a strong influence and senior officers are often considered immune from prosecution. It caused a wave of controversy, with Musharraf – exiled in Dubai – slamming it as a “vendetta” and the military expressing its disappointment.
Wazito Football Club’s Costly Error in Signing Wyvone Isuza

After seasons with Kenya Premier League’s second most successful side, AFC Leopards, Midfielder Wyvonne Isuza finally found it wise to announce his big exit from the ‘Leopards Den’ to the KPL ‘monied’ Wazito Football Club, who are currently struggling to pick themselves up after a shoddy first half to the season.
The former Mathare United midfielder’s departure was quite expected by all ‘Ingwe’ diehards, it was, in fact, a matter of when as opposed to if, given AFC’s current financial challenges.
It now emerges that while Isuza had duly written to his club, AFC Leopards, formally expressing his reasons for wanting out, they (Wazito FC) went ahead to sign and unveil the player before his termination notice elapsed.
Wazito FC’s new office, led by its former Captain Gicheru, finds itself in a tight spot, over something they could have easily avoided, had their decision making not been erratic.
Technically, therefore, Wazito’s blunder makes them liable for player tapping, a crime the bonafide owners of Isuza’s services, AFC Leopards, has since informed them of, in writing, and copied both the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
It is the above communication that has prompted Wazito FC to consider negotiating with Leopards. While rumours are rife that AFC Leopards asked for Ksh 2M to let go of the midfielder, reliable sources from both parties revealed that Leopards asked for Ksh 1.5M, but later came down to about Ksh 750,0000, a figure the Wazito FC negotiators claimed was on the higher side.
They have since offered Ksh. 500,000, but negotiations are still on.
We await to see how cheap or expensive Wazito’s error was, or how reasonable or unreasonable the AFC Leopards will be on the negotiating table, given that they have no financial muscle to keep Isuza under their stable for long.
