Coronavirus: Ukraine Protesters Attack Buses Carrying China Evacuees
February 21st, 2020Dozens of protesters in a Ukrainian town have attacked buses carrying evacuees from coronavirus-hit China.
The evacuees were brought to a health spa in Novi Sanzhary, in the central Poltava region, where they will be held in quarantine for 14 days.
President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the protesters to show empathy.
Ukraine’s security service (SBU) said a fake email claiming to be from the health ministry falsely said some evacuees had contracted the virus.
Harambee Starlets Striker Essie Akida Signs A Two-Year Professional Contract With Besiktas
February 18th, 2020Harambee Starlets striker Essie Akida on Monday, February 17 signed a two-year professional contract with Turkish giants Besiktas.
Akida made history as she becomes the first Kenyan woman to join a side which features in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, arguably the world’s most prestigious club competition.
Akida previously turned out for Israeli side Ramat HaSharon FC which signed her in October 2018.

Fire Breaks Out In Starehe Boys Centre
February 15th, 2020Property of unknown value was razed down after a fire broke out Saturday evening at Starehe Boys Centre workshop and Study block.
The incident happened after most of the students were away for their mid-term break.
Starehe Boys Centre acting Director Josphat Mwaura said that the inferno is suspected to have started from the workshop and spread to the student’s study block.
No casualties have been reported and the acting director said that they are conducting a headcount on the students who remained in school for the mid-term break.
The fire was contained shortly after the arrival of the Nairobi Fire brigade and Red Cross.
This Is How Mike Sonko And His Wife Spent Their Valentine’s Day

Not everyone wants to get flowers, go to dinner, watch a movie or anything “romantic” on Valentine’s day!
Some couples decide to put smiles on the faces of the needy people who don’t have anyone to treat them as their valentine.
With that in mind, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and his wife Primrose Mbuvi spent their Valentine’s Day visiting patients at Mama Lucy Hospital.
The couple visited the patients and gifted each of them a red rose flower.
Mothers who had just delivered their babies were surprised with a basin full of baby items including diapers and soaps.
The Nairobi County first lady was seen interacting with the mothers, holding their babies and asking of their children’s well being.
“Make sure you breastfeed your child for at least six months,” she told one of the mothers as they proceeded to another wing. During their visit, a female patient begged the governor to help her offset her medical bill.
Sonko reached into his pocket and pulled out a few Ksh 1,000 notes and handed it to her!

RUTO: Govt To Support Families In Kakamega School Tragedy
February 5th, 2020The Deputy President explained that the government’s multi-agency team was also extending its support to the survivors of the unfortunate incident to prevent a further loss of life.
“Affected learners, parents and their families would be counseled,” he added.
He spoke on Tuesday at the institution’s premises where he also assured that the National Government and the County Government of Kakamega would offer essential assistance to the grieving families.
“Our condolences to the bereaved families, we share your grief with deep sympathy. We wish quick recovery to the survivors of the incident,” said the Deputy President.
He was accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Education Permanent Secretary Belio Kipsang, among other leaders.
KIAMBU: Nyoro’s Swearing In Put Off Over Legal Challenges
January 30th, 2020The swearing-in of James Nyoro to take over as the new Kiambu Governor after the impeachment of Ferdinand Waititu has been postponed over legal challenges.
Hundreds of Nyoro’s supporters and leaders had assembled at the County Headquarters, where he was ready to take an oath, only for the Judiciary to postpone the exercise, prompting protests from locals.
The exercise was postponed after legal experts questioned the legality of the swearing-in before the expiry of 10 days as required by law, to enable any dissatisfied party to lodge a challenge in court.
BBI: Ukambani Leaders To Push For Community’s Interests
January 30th, 2020Political leaders from Ukambani region yesterday resolved to bury the hatchet and work together towards the community’s social, political and economic interests.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and representatives of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua declared they will “henceforth pursue a unified political course particularly on matters related to the ongoing national debate on Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).”
They spoke at a meeting in Athi River, Machakos County, which was also attended by over 20 MPs and dozens of MCAs drawn from different political parties in the region.
In her speech, Ngilu vowed to be in the forefront of coordinating BBI forums and political unity in Ukambani. “No amount of political differences will keep me away from doing what is in the best interest of the community,” she said.
Tangatanga Barred From Mumias and Nzoia Sugar Companies.
January 25th, 2020The Ruto allied had planned to hold a Press Conference visiting the collapsed sugar companies.
As the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) intrigues went on in Mombasa, a section of Western leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have today being barred from accessing the Mumias and Nzoia Sugar Companies.
The politicians who included lawmakers Didmus Barasa, Hon. Washiali and former legislators Boni Kalwale and Rachid Echesa together with some local supporters had planned to access the facilities but were locked out and chased away by area locals and security personnel manning the premises.
Thereafter they proceeded to the Nabongo Mumia grounds for a political rally where they briefly addressed the locals.
The meeting started with the leaders making stopover at Nzoia Sugar Company where they tried in vain to access the factory before heading to Mumias Sugar Company for the same exercise.
This was the second attempt after the first meeting was rescheduled after the police canceled the first attempt to hold it on January 18.

Emurua Dikiir MP Johanna Ngeno, an ardent supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, said supporters of the DP have had enough humiliations and should not attend the BBI rallies, including the one scheduled for Saturday in Mombasa.
He called it unwise for Ruto-allied politicians to attend the rally. Those planning to attend should join ODM, he said.
“Akufukuzae hakuambii toka (A person who wants you out of her/his place will not tell you so,” he said, implying that the signs are on the wall, hence Ruto supporters must act accordingly.
“My advice to my group, especially Ruto’s supporters, is that we have been humiliated enough and Kenyans have seen and heard of the same, so I do not see any why we should attend.”
Ngeno said he will not attend BBI rallies planned by the Kielewke and ODM unless he reconsiders his stand to join the party and support Odinga as before when he was in the camp.
The outspoken lawmaker asked the leaders supporting Ruto not to attend the rally but rather organise similar meetings with their supporters and come up with resolutions that will be handed over to the committee tasked to gather proposals.
He claimed the rallies are not for the BBI as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta but rather ODM functions that benefit the party and its leader alone.
Trump To Add Tanzania To US Travel Ban List
January 24th, 2020More African countries could soon be caught in the cross-hairs of US president Donald Trump’s immigration clampdown.
Three years after issuing a controversial travel ban initially slapped on seven Muslim-majority countries, the Trump administration is planning to expand the ban to reportedly include four more African countries: Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania and Eritrea. The others are: Belarus, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan.
While not disclosing the countries set to be affected, Trump confirmed the plans on the sidelines of World Economic Forum in Davos. An announcement of the additional countries could be made as early as Monday, Angaza News reports.
Given the legal challenges the initial travel ban faced following which a watered-down version was implemented, additional countries are unlikely to face a blanket ban on all citizens. Instead, possible restrictions may include travel bans issued to government officials or issuing shorter-term visas on citizens. However, an inclusion on the travel ban list will likely result in increased scrutiny for visa applicants from those countries.
